Happy Sunday!

This week’s prompt is less a prompt than a manifesto.

Robert Rodriguez says, “Don’t dream about being a filmmaker. You are a filmmaker. Now let’s get down to business.”

And here’s where he tells you how to do that. His advice transcends film, tho, and is useful to any profession. Particularly playwrighting. “Learn the tools of the trade.”  “Anyone know how to write? No? Good. Everyone else writes the same way. Start writing your way. That makes you unique.” and “Don’t bother going to film school.”

Given my current experience, I’d say the same to playwrights about MFAs – unless (and it’s a big one) you’re at Juilliard or maybe Brown or Hofstra.

Happy writing – er, filmmaking. And writing.

Filmmaking camera old.
