coining words vs. using words incorrectly


More and more, I’m seeing people use words with aplomb, words that may sort of sound like the words they think they’re using, words that mean, well, some of them aren’t words (yet) and these folks aren’t Shakespeare so likely the letter-amalgamations they use will never become words.

And then there are those who use words, real words, dictionaried words (see how I did that?) that have quite different meanings from the writer’s idea.

This is why God Made Dictionaries. Spell-check only goes so far.

Yes, now we’re all writers and now, well-written often means ‘most popular.’ But it ain’t so.

Of course, there are few things better than laughter…
